How I knew this would be the perfect gift for my picky coffee-drinking husband
I KNEW my husband would love this gift because he’s one of those people that waits 20 minutes to drink his coffee if served too hot, and will reheat it immediately if it drops below a certain temperature.
It’s about a 5-minute window we’re talking about.
I will drink coffee cold… coffee is coffee, am I right?
So I boldly ordered the coffee cup of his dreams and waited eagerly for it to show up.
When I handed him the gift, he turned it over and over in his hands skeptically. There was talk of blue tooth and programming to his phone and anything he has to program on his phone he isn’t going to like.
Shoot.
But we learned you can program it once and never do it again. Once he was able to get past that, he was their number-one fan. He even drilled a hole in our cabinet the other day just to park his beloved cup in the cupboard and keep it plugged in. Which is what actually triggered me to make this post. The boy loves his Ember. Basically, even the least of the techies out there can still love this mug.
Is the Ember mug worth it?
I think that the Ember mug is 100% worth it. If you know anyone in your life who is super picky about their coffee temperature, this is the gift of all gifts. This mug is one of those things a lot of people may not buy for themselves, but as a gift, it can be super exciting. After buying one for my husband I ended up asking for one for Christmas. I love it!
How long does the charge on Ember cups last?
You can expect three hours when you use it off the charging coaster at a temperature of about 130°F. Battery life will be more or less depending on how hot or cool you like your coffee. Our Ember mug usually lasts 2 hours at the max temperate of 145 degrees.
What is the point of an Ember mug?
What is the point? Dear friend, I’m going to go out on a ledge and assume that if you’re asking this question you either
- a) don’t drink coffee
- b) perhaps you drink espresso where the time to consume it would be much shorter. Or…
- c) maybe you’re laser-focused on your coffee drinking and can’t be distracted from its side.
This mug will keep your coffee hot for 2 hours just by sitting in the charged mug. I don’t know about you, but my coffee seems to get cold immediately if I remove it from my hand. With three little kids, there are about 20 different distractions away from my coffee in the course of the first couple of hours alone.
Can you brew tea in an Ember?
Yes, as I mentioned before, you can program on your phone what temperature you keep the water in the mug at, so you could easily program your mug to an ideal temperature for brewing tea.
Is it okay to leave the Ember mug on the charger?
Yes, however, the bottom of the cup needs to be dry. But once your Ember mug is 100% fully charged, it will stop charging and it won’t cause any damage to the mug.
Is it okay to put an Ember mug in the dishwasher?
No. Make sure you handwash only. However, make sure you fully dry the bottom of the mug before setting it back on the charging coaster.
Can you reheat your coffee in your Ember mug?
Yes, however, it doesn’t happen immediately. It will take 5-10 minutes to get your coffee from cool back up to the temperature that you programmed it to.
Can I put my Ember mug in the microwave to heat it up?
Please…just don’t. Don’t do that. Like all electronics, putting them in a microwave could for sure cause a fire. Yikes.
Does the Ember mug burn coffee?
Honestly, I have noticed that if I’m using it for the full 2 hours, and my coffee gets down to the very bottom, it doesn’t seem to burn a bit. But then again, maybe I need to turn my heat down…hmmmm.
What colors does the Ember come in?
The classic Ember comes in red, black, white, and grey. They also have a metallic collection with rose gold, copper, gold and stainless.
What sizes does the Ember mug come in?
It comes in a 6 oz cup for drinks like expresso, flat whites, and all of those fancy drinks, a 10 oz and a 14 oz mug, and a 12 oz travel mug.
