The word on the street is that the Beautycounter Vitamin C Serum is a superstar for brightening dull skin, smoothing out skin tone, removing sunspots (and sometimes even clearing up melasma) and reducing signs of premature aging.
But you’ve had some questions. So, I put together a FAQ post with the most commonly asked questions about Beautycounter’s beloved hero product.
Benefits of Beautycounter’sVitamin C Serum
Vitamin C serum is a wonderful skincare tool for smoothing out skin tone, reducing discolorations and sunspots, and brightening dull skin.
With Beautycounter’s vitamin C serum, after using the product for 8 weeks regularly:
- 100% said their skin looked brighter
- 94% said it reduced the appearance of dark spots
- 97% said skin looked more youthful
- 94% said skin tone looked more even
Is Beautycounter’s Vitamin C Serum safe for pregnancy?
Yes! Beautycounter specifically screens and assesses each of our ingredients for 23 distinct, safety endpoints, including reproductive toxicity. We keep safety in mind with all of our products and for all of our users, but specifically, they are careful for those who may be extra vulnerable- like pregnant women and children.
Is the Beautycounter Vitamin C Serum good?
In my humblest of opinions, absolutely, yes. This is one of the products I keep in regular rotation in my regimen. I find when I don’t use it, my skin looks a little less vibrant and uneven. As I mentioned above, after an 8-week study with 32 participants—
- 100% said skin looked brighter
- 94% said it reduced the appearance of dark spots
- 97% said skin looked more youthful
- 94% said skin tone looked more even
How do you use the Vitamin C Serum?
The All-Bright C Serum is what would be considered a “treatment step”. So the ideal order of your skincare routine would be
- Cleanse– this is your cleanser/washing your face.
- Tone- toners help to bring your skin back to homeostasis after cleansing. It also helps to prep your skin for the next step—your treatments.
- Treat– skin treatments are products with supercharged ingredients that aim to target a specific issue (eg. fine lines and wrinkles, or extra hydration). This would be the step you would add in your vitamin C serum. If you are using any other treatment serums, vitamin c would go on last, right before your moisturizer. Of course, please patch-test your vitamin C serum on your jawline with your other serum to make sure your skin reacts well. (Read: Is Vitamin C Serum Safe for Sensitive Skin?)
- Protect– this is your moisturizer, or in the case of oily/acne-prone skin, your mattifying gel.

When do I use the Vitamin C Serum?
Vitamin C Serum is a daytime product. After washing your face and using toner if you have it (if you need help figuring out which toner you would use, take this short survey and I’ll help you out with that), you’ll apply your vitamin C serum right before your moisturizer.
- Cleanse
- Toner
- Treatment *this is where you would layer in your vitamin C serum* —if you’re using more than one serum, put the vitamin C last right before your moisturizer.
- Moisturizer
Can I use it at night?
No this is a daytime product.
If you’re looking for a nighttime serum that will compliment your vitamin C serum, check out the overnight resurfacing peel. You can read my review here.
Is Vitamin C good for melasma?
Obviously, we cannot guarantee the results of treating melasma with this product, but there have been people who have had amazing results with this, with consistent use over time.

Like I tell all of my clients who are trying anything new on their skin, but ESPECIALLY to someone who feels they have sensitive skin—
- Always patch-test a small amount on the underside of your jawline and see how it responds, and
- Go slow! You may love the way your skin looks and feels after one use, but don’t jump into using it every day. Try 2-3 times a week for a while {to start} and see how your skin likes it.
